Welcome to the 7th fib Congress

Lisbon, June 15-19, 2026

Welcome to Lisbon for the 7th fib Congress

After the fib Symposium 2021, held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic, GPBE and IST are delighted to host the 7th fib Congress and welcome you to Lisbon, the westernmost and second-oldest European capital.

The congress motto – “Structural Concrete 2050: Towards Carbon Neutrality, AI Design, and Robotic Construction” – aims to highlight the ultimate goal of sustainability and the opportunities that emerging technologies will bring to concrete structures.

During the first four days of the congress, world-renowned keynote speakers will address key topics, including conceptual design, the robustness of prefabricated structures, seismic retrofitting of existing buildings, 3D-printing, and AI-driven applications. Delegates from around the world, holding diverse professional backgrounds, will present the latest scientific and technological innovations, as well as the most impressive projects in structural concrete, bridging research and practice.

Young engineers will have dedicated sessions organized by the fib-YMG, while students will participate in a competition designed to challenge both their skills and the knowledge of their supervisors. Additionally, leading companies in the concrete construction industry will showcase their products and services at the sponsors’ technical exhibition, located in both foyers of the congress venue, where coffee breaks and lunches will take place.

On the fifth day, participants will have the opportunity to join one of two technical visits: (a) to an existing cable-stayed bridge in Lisbon or (b) to an under-construction arch bridge in Porto.

June is a wonderful time to visit Portugal, with its pleasant weather making it an excellent opportunity to extend your stay through the weekend. Visitors can explore Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks, such as St. George’s Castle, Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Terreiro do Paço, the National Museum of Ancient Art, the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, and the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. Alternatively, they can visit the charming nearby towns of Sintra (including the Village Palace and Pena Palace), Cascais (with its Cidadela and beautiful beaches), or, slightly further away, Óbidos (with its medieval village, St. Mary’s Church, and aqueduct) and Nazaré (famous for its picturesque village and the São Miguel Arcanjo Fort).

For those choosing the technical visit in Porto, a tour of the city is a must, including its treasures such as Foz, Ribeira, the Port wine cellars, and the iconic Clérigos Tower. To conclude the day, a boat trip along the Douro River will provide a perfect ending to an unforgettable experience.
